At the Microstructure Simulation Lab at KU Leuven, we specialize in developing advanced phase-field models and simulation codes to study and predict microstructure evolution in materials. Our work enables the optimization of material properties through microstructure engineering.
By integrating phase-field models with thermodynamic and kinetic models and embedding them in multi-physics simulation frameworks, we can simulate complex, industrially relevant materials and processes. We moreover apply the use of data-driven approaches, including machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), and big data handling techniques, to accelerate the simulations and the microstructure optimization.
The Microstructure Simulation Lab Leuven is part of the Nano- & Microstructure Design of Materials group at the Department of Materials Engineering of KU Leuven.
